Don’t you just love the smell of Walt Disney World? You know what I mean. The scents that make you smile or wrinkle your nose every time you encounter them. They are the smells that you may have encountered in some other form in some other place, but still stir up fond memories of previous visits to a park, or allow you to stop, breathe deeply, and truly BE in the moment.
Take the smell of the lobby of The Grand Floridian Resort I’m sure someone spent a lot of time deciding on that particular scent — it’s a little fresh and floral with a hint of aloe. I don’t know why, but it makes me relax. I take a deep breath and realize that I am finally home.
Here are some of the other amazing, interesting, overwhelming and subtle scents that I love and will always associate with the parks and resorts,
- Dole whips, all of them (haha) it doesn’t matter which flavour they all smell as amazing as they taste and my first port of call is left from central plaza straight to Adventureland to get multiple at once.
- Main street, first when you pass the confectionary store mouth watering cotton candy and all the sugary treats then passing the Main Street bakery.
- The water rides whether it’s pirates of the caribbean, splash mountain or it’s a small world they all have the same algae kind of scent that we probably wouldn’t like anywhere else although it’s a small world does have other scents as you travel through different cultures.
- Soarin around the world, one of my all time favourite attractions because of the different range of smells they use to immerse you into the moment in time.
There’s no doubt that the sense of smell is powerful. I wonder what you’ll discover on your next “smellwalk” around the Parks?
Fun fact, they use smelitizers around lots of locations to pump the scent out for example at the Main Street bakery they pump the bakery type scent out into the street so when you walk by you are more likely to want to go in to grab that cupcake and coffee. Each resort lobby has its own scent to fit the resorts themeing and some resorts do use the same scent like the grand Floridian and the contemporary resort which is why that is probably my all time favourite scent, staying in a castle view room at the contemporary, watching the fireworks from the balcony without fighting crowds and even watching the monorail do it’s loop over and over again was priceless and the scent will never get old for me.
My obsession for the parks is where my business evolved into what it is today and I couldn’t be happier, every time I’m feeling down because I’ve not been home now in the longest time ever since I started going, I just need to take in some of the scents I am creating everyday to take me back there for a moment.
Ive made sure every scent I am creating replicates those moments as close as physically possible so I can bring as many people to that magical moment through one of our simple senses, our smell. It takes lots of planning and sampling until I say to myself yes’ that’s the ONE and you can be confidant we haven’t just added any old scent to something named after themes and I really pride myself on that.
I still have so many items planned with the goal of having a range of nearly every scent possible you can find when you visit. I wonder if I can say my trips are for market research and an excuse to go more often 🤔🤣
